Expanding My Photographic Horizons Part I

With a few years under my belt, I am proud of the progression of my skill and quality of photographs. But I just want more.

I read alot of photography books and practice with my DSLR in manual mode. You have no idea how much you learn just by reading photography magazines and books (I highly recommend it)!

Looking to expand my reportoire in photography, I have been looking at eBay for ideas on new equipment. I have made up my mind on what I would like.

Rebecca's Wintery Adventure

With the weather finally warming up but has the perfect amount of warmth and snowy landscape, I took Rebecca out with her winter gear for a little photoshoot.

I am a super fan of Rebecca. I love everything about her - her curly hair, her Josefina mold, her hazel eyes. I bought Rebecca's coat in February and I've been very sad that I couldn't go outside and shoot with Rebecca and her coat on.

I love milder weather.

Kit Misses Molly

Kit looks ahead and sees a figure in the distance. The sunlight blocks her vision as she squints to figure out the looming shadow coming forward. With no clue other than a shadow, Kit stands still to see who it is. The clicking heel on the wooden floors gets louder and louder while Kit squints her eyes thinner and thinner.

She gasps when the figure finally comes into her vision...

Kit Goes To School

While I was at American Girl Place in New York City, I kept on hanging around Kit's display and I kept looking at her dresses.

Her dresses have always made me wish I was living in her era. I love the details, the patterns, the cloche hats, piping. I love it ALL!

And when I saw the School Skirt Set was just all of that combined, I knew I had to have it for my Kit! I am not planning to do a review on this because I think it's just so fabulous, I think my photos should just convince you to get it!

Outtakes: Molly's Polka Dot Outfit

When I take pictures of my dolls for a review or just for gratuitous sake, I always have EXTRA pictures. I've never posted them here before, only on Flickr in order to showcase it to a different audience.

However...

WHY NOT HERE?!

So for your viewing pleasure...

Outfit Review: Molly's Polka-Dot Outfit

I've always been a huge fan of Molly. I think she is one of the most underappreciate, overlooked doll in American Girl. I find it so sad when I see little girls going past her and walking towards shiny, new Caroline. Although my Mattel Molly does not wear her glasses, I have left my white-bodied Molly in her original meet, glasses, braids and shoes.

After hearing rumours of Molly's archival, I decided I needed to focus on her collection. I started with a few of her outfits that I knew was overlooked by a lot of people. For some odd reason, I don't see her Polka-Dot outfit all that often in doll collector pictures, but it is such an adorable outfit on her!

Outfit Review: Cécile's Parlor Outfit

I've always thought that Cécile is a gorgeous doll. She was one of the doll's I wanted to make sure I got outfits for. I realize that the NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) girls Marie-Grace and Cécile aren't the most popular dolls, however I have a weakness for elaborate dresses and chemises!

I got Cécile's Parlor Outfit during the weekly sale, I printed the page out and brought it to American Girl Place, NY. I managed to get the sale price for the Parlor's Outfit (yay!). I will review the outfit and its components and tell you whether or not I think it is a good buy.

Doesn't she just look beautiful?

American Girl Doll Photography Video Part I

I have been uploading videos lately to explain how I have been taking pictures of my dolls. This is one of the steps I have taken to share my knowledge. I hope people do watch it, it will encourage me to make more videos.

Stealing Intellectual Property

Exhibit A: The Stolen Picture

With my years of photography, I have learned a few things about improving my shots and my photos in programs like Lightroom and Photoshop.

American Girl Restoration - Hair, The Aftermath

Looking at party girl Samantha, she doesn't look so party girl anymore.

Here she is posing in her Buster Brown Dress!

American Girl Restoration - Hair (Part III)

Remember where I left off with Samantha's hair journey?

American Girl Restoration - Hair (Part II)

I always seem to be dunking Sammy's hair in a bowl full of fluid.

After a month, I finally took her out of the closet after flying her from New York City. Samantha looked so sad in her play dress and pinafore. Her hair frizzy and dry even after a downy dunk. I knew I had to do something else to her hair.

American Girl Restoration - Hair (Part I)

Her hair (even with downy) looks like it needs more help!

I've always had a fascination with older dolls. Dolls that have been well-loved, well-played, well..everything. I have won a couple of dolls from eBay with terrible hair. Dolls that have been brush one too many and are needing a spa day to restore the shine and smoothness of new doll hair.
